Task 01 / Exercises

1. LECTURES

Week 01 - Introduction

In our first class, Mr. Hafiz has guided us through the basics of this subject in this week's lesson and what kind of work we could expect from it. We also created an e-portfolio site on Blogger and a Google Drive folder where we can post our work. We also had to fill out our information in google sheets in order to get Adobe access from the ICT team. We were also given a small exercise from a website called The Bezier Game to assist us with the pen tool and get familiarise with it.

Week 03 : Light & Shadow

Mr.Hafiz demonstrated how to cast a simple shadow on a pear in this week's lecture on light and shadows. He then demonstrated how to cut the pear into many pieces and modify the colour while remaining inside the same colour space. A few useful tools for illustration were also taught, such as pathfinder, shape builder, and the knife tool, which were used during the creation of the pear.

After creating and playing around with the tools and shadows of the pear. We were also tasked with applying a skull face on the previously created pear, which greatly improves tracing accuracy for our pen tool.

Week 04 : Colours & Blending mode

Mr Hafiz provided us with a human character to trace and texture after we practised on a pear. We were also taught about colour blending and texture addition in this week's class. We also discovered a few handy features and shorts-cuts, such as shape builder, select certain items, locking objects, and grouping objects.

4. PROJECT - TASK 1 EXERCISES

Milestone 1 Exercise- Vormator Character Design

I picked my 3rd character design to continue with this task.

Fig 4.1 Character Design 3  , Week 4

Following the pear shadow attempt, I apply the shadow to my Vormator avatar. I added some shadows to my character as it will add a visual effect, depth and a 3D effect to my character itself.

Next, I find some grey texture to add into the heading part of my character. Below is the texture background image I have chosen.

Outcome :

Background :

The inspiration of my background came from the character itself as it has tail and has the structure of fish (sea creatures lives underwater). So, I decided to go for underwater background with bubbles and water splashing from below my character.

To create the bubbles, I have used Rectangle tool and Ellipse Tool. (img shown in fig 4.5)

I selected Paintbrush tool to sketch out the type of water splash that i wanted and adjust the gradient on it.
