Assignment 3 : Digital Triptych

1. LECTURES

2. INSTRUCTIONS

3.PROJECT

This assignment is a continuation of Assignment 1: That Decisive Moment, and the goal is to construct a digital triptych using Scott McCloud's transition theory. This piece will be divided into three panels: one before, one during (climactic turning point), and one after a crucial occurrence. Each panel will depict a distinct form of transition in McCloud's idea.

Below are the type of transitions from Scott McCloud's theory :

Fig 3.1 Type of transitions , Week 10

For each of the three panels, we must choose one transition type: before, during (climactic turning point), and after the turning point.

To tell my urban legend story, I chose action-to-action as my transition.

Now that the climactic panel (the decisive moment clip) is finished, I must create basic panels depicting the events leading up to it and the aftermath.

Final Outcome :

Transition type : Action to Action

Panel 1: Before

Explanation: The shift in this panel is from action to action, with the emphasis on the sequence of events leading up to the climactic turning point. The first shot depicts two persons going through a woodland. The use of an Action to Action transition helps the spectator to experience the peaceful and eerie atmosphere of the setting, accentuating the seclusion and stillness of the surroundings. The absence of people, combined with the surrounding ambiance, provides a sense of suspense and expectation, setting the stage for the next big event.

Panel 2: During

Explanation: The transition from panel two to three is likewise Action to Action, accentuating the appearance of the ghost, "the little girl in red," and its movement towards the two people walking towards the trial road during the climactic turning point. This style of transition assists to amplify the story.

Panel 3: After

Explanation: To depict the aftermath of the big event, the final panel implements the Action to Action transition. The ghost, "the little girl in red," killed one of the victims and took the other to an unknown location in the forest. This shift keeps the narrative moving, allowing the spectator to see the ghost's next action and the end of the encounter. The "little girl in red" murdering one of the individuals and blinding the other person's vision who followed her to unknown regions adds intrigue, leaving the resolution open to interpretation and encouraging the viewer to contemplate on the implications of the voyage.
