Final Project | Merchandising & Promotional Items

 INSTRUCTIONS

Task 4:
We will design new packaging and promotional materials based on the outcome of the collaboration under this project.

TASKS

In Task 3B we had to take the project a step further and expand the product line, creating additional flavors and promotional items.

We decided to keep the mascot design and expand it to new flavors. We launched two new cup noodle flavors, spicy and tomato. But before that, we did some research of different flavours. Below are the visual references.

Following our research, we began developing designs for two additional cup noodle flavors to expand the product range. The new flavors, Spicy Chicken and Tomato Chicken, were carefully selected to cater to diverse taste preferences and add variety to the lineup. Each flavor was designed to reflect its unique identity while maintaining consistency with the overall brand image. By incorporating these new options, we aimed to appeal to a broader audience and further enhance the product's marketability. Below are the two new cup noodles flavours.

At the same time, we came up with merchandise and promotional items that would help promote the product. After discussion, we decided on

1. Apron
2. Mugs
3. Lunch box
4. Chopsticks & Plates
5. Product display stand
6. Street Billboard
7. Promotional booth.

Each item must have a connection to the product, but also function as a product. Here is how we approach each item:

In the practical class, we got feedback and made improvements. Below are the progression and improvement made.

After a lot of improvements and refinements, the following are the results of our improvements.

FEEDBACK

Week 12
Exercises :

Specific feedback : There must be an advertising material - newspaper ads or a billboard ads. Stickers might not be suitable for our product’s merchandise. Other than that the other merchandise are okay.

Week 13
Exercises :

Specific feedback :
  • For our booth maybe it should be more better and don't think the pumpkin and chicken on top of the table is working. Try something else.
  • For the other booth, try to include the main logo of the product and make sure its eye catching.
  • For the final mockup, apply it on the real life exhibition or store.

REFLECTIONS

Experience

Completing the final merchandising project was both challenging and rewarding, offering valuable growth opportunities. I fully engaged in every stage, from concept development to final design, shifting my focus from simplicity to creating a product that resonated with the target audience. Collaborating with my team and incorporating feedback from peers and mentors strengthened my confidence and improved the design. This experience deepened my understanding of balancing creativity with customer appeal, emphasising the importance of adaptability, collaboration, and attention to detail in delivering impactful results.

Observation

Throughout the project, I gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of understanding the preferences and needs of our target market. During brainstorming sessions, it became clear that aligning our concepts with specific trends and consumer behavior patterns was critical to refining our ideas and ensuring their relevance. This focus on the audience allowed us to create designs that were not only visually appealing but also resonated with the intended users.

I also learned the importance of paying attention to those details that will lead to a cohesive product image, like packaging design and branding that have been thoroughly thought out to maintain coherence with the overall concept. These little things meant so much in the quality and professionalism of the perceived final product.

The success of the project also proved teamwork to be another important issue. Evidently, clear communication with each other in the group and well-planned division of labor helped to work at the highest standards possible during the whole process. The contribution of each member in the team was vital to our common goals, while teamwork created an opportunity to share ideas and enhance them.

Findings

This project highlighted the need of integrating creativity with strategic planning. I discovered that successful marketing transcends mere aesthetics, necessitating a profound comprehension of the market and congruence with company values. Adaptability was essential, since receptiveness to change and effective problem resolution optimised the process. Collaboration and varied viewpoints enhanced the final product, rendering it more effective and suitable for the market. This experience offered realistic insights for future projects emphasising the necessity of balancing creativity with effectiveness.
