FEEDBACK
Week 1
Exercises :
General feedback : Briefing & Lectures given, complete task 1, case study on existing packaging by next week.
Week 2
Exercises :
Specific feedback : The overall sketches of the die-line is ok. Should add more design of the functionality of the box packaging. For example, one of my product is Mini Bluetooth speaker. I were to think of the packaging as a consumers, how I would try the product when I have the intention to buy this bluetooth speaker.
Week 3
Exercises :
General feedback : Submit Task 1, case study & box making by 11:59pm. We were suggested to download typography ruler and print it out for future use.
Week 4
Exercises :
General feedback : Ensure that your concept clearly explains the product's purpose. Design with intention, incorporating meaning into every element—this is what offers true value and attracts clients.
Specific feedback : Colour is fine, but we may need additional sketches since the first eight ideas should be designs we commonly see, and new ideas typically come to us only after we've exhausted these familiar ones.
Week 5
Exercises :
General feedback : Miss gave us the lecture on packaging design to ensure we're familiar with the key points for designing packaging in our upcoming task.
Specific feedback : Miss commented on the other designs and said how does green related to Taylors and the other design might no be suitable for a coffee cup. Miss picked the multilingual idea and asked us to make changes to the typographic & layout arrangements. Make changes to the colour as well.
Week 6
Exercises :
Specific feedback : Miss commented that the final outcome seems ok.
Week 7
Exercises :
Specific feedback : Miss provided us with guidance on how the blogger could change and provide us feedback on the sketches of the next project.
Week 9
Exercises :
Specific feedback : Miss agrees that the illustration in this ( our final look) in comparison with the other looks better however we need to work on the layout( with all the information)
- Apply your design principle knowledge
Week 10
Exercises :
Specific feedback : Miss liked how we did the layout on the cup and it looks fine, she also mentioned that the mascot (main logo and instructions) applied is cute and suits the brand.
Week 11
Exercises :
General feedback : Prepare a packaging prototype and prepare proposal slides for the SBS student presentation scheduled for Week 12.
Specific feedback :
- Try printing it on a normal material paper so it is soft enough to cut and fold with it.
- The layout is slightly off. Re-align all elements properly. After printing, fold the prototype and identify any issues with alignment, structural stability, and proper placement of information. Pay attention to how images and text align when folded.
Week 12
Exercises :
Specific feedback : There must be an advertising material - newspaper ads or a billboard ads. Stickers might not be suitable for our product’s merchandise. Other than that the other merchandise are okay.
Week 13
Exercises :
Specific feedback :
- For our booth maybe it should be more better and don't think the pumpkin and chicken on top of the table is working. Try something else.
- For the other booth, try to include the main logo of the product and make sure its eye catching.
- For the final mockup, apply it on the real life exhibition or store.
REFLECTIONS
Experience
These four assignments were a very rewarding journey of learning, creativity, and problem-solving. Each had its unique challenges, from designing packaging to balance aesthetic with functionality, to sustainability and compliance issues. I grew from focusing on simplicity to creating more complex, market-oriented designs. Collaboration was key and really brought home the importance of teamwork and cross-disciplinary communication. These experiences have furthered my understanding of how creativity, practicality, and strategy come together in order to deliver impactful solutions.
Observation
Throughout these assignments that were undertaken, it became quite evident that the underlying success of each was found within knowing the preference and expectations of the audience. Whether through the creation of an appropriate color palette, the use of natural themes, or a focus on the design being sustainable, matching the creativity to the values of the audiences greatly enhanced the final result.
Besides, great attention to detail played a very important role in enhancing the quality of the designs. Other details included clear and consistent branding, functional ergonomics, and adherence to regulatory standards, lending a professional and usable look to the designs. These details added not only to the practicality of the designs but also helped present them in a market-ready manner.
Findings
These assignments taught me that effective design and marketing are not only questions of creativity but require strategic thinking and profound knowledge of the market. Teamwork was also priceless: different points of view added much to the results and made the projects stronger. I realized how important it is to balance aesthetics with functionality in order to create designs that will appeal to users and meet practical needs. Key considerations, such as issues of sustainability and usability, underlined the need throughout the process to focus on the end user. These experiences have accorded me insights and experience that will be useful to apply in the future with packaging design, extending out into larger business initiatives.
