Task 04 | Final Compilation & Reflection

 INSTRUCTIONS

TASK 1 : EXERCISES

Exercise 01: Text Formatting

For the first task, Mr Hijjaz demonstrated how to build up a document for text formatting. We were also told to format the texts from the 3000-word write-ups from content generation.

Exercise 02: Mock-up Making

To complete this task, we must first view Mr Vinod's tutorial video on YouTube. Therefore, we were instructed to explore three different kinds of paper sizes that are larger than A5 but smaller than A4.

Three sizes that I have explored :

  1. 250mm x 190 mm
  2. 240mm x 170mm
  3. 230mm x 180 mm

I ended up choosing the book size of 230mm x 180 mm.

Exercise 04: Classic Grid Structure

In exercise 4, we were told to watch another video lesson from Mr. Vinod that demonstrated how to design a Van de Graff on paper and how to use this grid structure to set a manual grid. Below are my outcome for this exercise.

REFLECTIONS

Experience

In this whole module, I had great experience in publishing design-starting from choosing a book size to the creation of its layout. I really enjoyed this freedom of expression of thought and emotion while visualizing memories in a printed book during Task 2. Task 3 helped me understand different design styles, refine the identity of my brand, and learn new skills in Adobe InDesign, including digital publishing and creating interactivity. Overall, this module greatly improved my graphic design skills and knowledge in publishing design.

Observation

I observed that the publishing design process demands time, focus, and attention to detail to create something unique. Additionally, the choice of materials plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall impact of a book, as does carefully aligning the content with the intended emotions and style in its printed form.

Findings

I have come to realize that good publishing involves taking a better view of so many important elements, all of which play an integral role in bringing out the whole outlook of the book. It also involves everything from materials and layout to fonts and imagery that go together into creating an impression. Paying attention to these minute details means the book will be able to communicate its message across and leave a dent in the minds of the readers. It involves a thoughtful mix of creativity, technical knowledge, and precision to bring the vision into being.
