Project 1 & 2 | Infographic Poster & Minimal Animated Infographic

 INSTRUCTIONS

TASKS

Part 1: Infographic poster (10%)

1. Choose 1 infographic poster reference from Internet (Please consult before proceed)
2. Redesign the poster into A4 size. Sketch the idea and process
3. Redesign and simplify the poster based on visual hierarchy & typography
4. Simplify the poster's design based on color, shape & pattern
5. Attach your final poster on E-Portfolio with explanation and reflective writing

Part 2: Minimal animated Infographic (10%)

1. Animate your infographic poster into one static loop animation page
2. Loop duration in between 15-30 second
3. Size: 1080 x 1920 px (Vertical Video) upload to your own Youtube channel

We were asked to select an infographic poster from the internet that is considered poorly designed. Below is the original poster I got approved by Mr. Shamsul. He also reminded to ensure a balanced ratio between information and graphics for a well-structured design.

Digitisation process :

First, I digitized various elements and graphics that I planned to use in my poster. I also retyped the information using Illustrator to ensure a clean and professional layout.

Attempt #1

Below is the colour palette that I used when designing the poster.

In the first attempt, I have explored 5 different layouts. For the first two layouts, I was playing around with the layout. But, I feel that the information as well as the arrangement does not fit well in the poster. So I moved on to creating three other different layouts.

Below are the 3 layouts that I have created. After finalising these designs, I sent them to Mr. Shamsul for feedback. He reviewed them and mentioned that he was satisfied with all three layouts. Instead of selecting one for me, he asked for my opinion on the designs and to pick the one I felt worked best as my final infographic poster. However, he suggested one adjustment for the third layout, aligning the title in the center to improve its visual balance.

Below are the changes made.

Animation (After Effects) :

After completing the poster, I moved on to creating the animation. I decided to pick Layout #1 to proceed with part 2, minimal animated infographic.

Attempt # 1

Attempt # 2

After showing my first attempt to Mr. Shamsul, I was asked to make some necessary changes. He suggested that elements from the same category or shape should appear simultaneously and that the rendering speed should be slightly faster, around three seconds. Below are the changes that I have made.

SUBMISSION

FEEDBACK

Week 3
Exercises :

Specific feedback : Mr. Shamsul mentioned that the poster I chose is fine, but I need to ensure a balanced ratio between the information and graphics.

Week 4
Exercises :

Specific feedback : Mr. Shamsul approved all three of my posters and only requested that I center the title in layout 3 to achieve better visual balance.

Week 5
Exercises :

Specific feedback : For the animated infographic, I can try making graphic elements from the same category or shape appear at the same time and also ensuring that the rendering speed is slightly faster.

REFLECTIONS

Throughout Project 1, I enhanced my skills in Information Design, recognizing the need to improve my layout design and attention to detail. I also overcame challenges in After Effects, even thought  I haven't touch it in a while but still regaining confidence through tutorials. The project reinforced the importance of considering multiple perspectives and applying past design knowledge.

Overall, this was a rewarding experience that allowed me to refine my skills and apply what I’ve learned. While I’m satisfied with the final result, there’s still room for improvement, and this project has motivated me to keep pushing my design abilities further.
